Actuarial Associate, Car

Soho, New York | Insurance

We’re looking for an Actuarial Associate who is ready to revolutionize insurance!  In this role, you’ll be managing rate levels, building advanced pricing tools, and bringing actuarial discipline to all kinds of questions: distribution, underwriting, claims, and everything in between.  You’ll also leverage competitive data and data science tools to optimize our customers’ experience and ensure fairness and accuracy in pricing.

Specifically, you’ll be an owner and expert on our state rating plans and rate indications. This means you’ll contribute to predictive modeling projects; work closely with Data Science on pricing models; craft rate filing support for new machine learning models; and identify areas for pricing and underwriting action based on ongoing monitoring of results.

At the same time, you’ll build a knowledge base of competitor’s rating strategies and the overall competitive landscape, and further your own actuarial education through CAS exams and industry research, applying those learnings on the job.

Requirements
  • 1-2 years of P&C actuarial experience; two or more actuarial exams preferred
  • College degree in Actuarial Science or related field
  • Personal lines experience strongly preferred
  • General knowledge of data science programming languages such as Python (preferred) or R, and proficiency in database query tools such as SQL
  • Familiarity with predictive modeling concepts
  • Sensitivity to model transparency/ethics
  • You’re analytical and tech savvy, with a strong ability to identify trends, communicate results, and take action
